A police officer died in a car accident Sunday afternoon while driving to a meeting.
Officer Aaron Peru, 26, with the San Carlos Police Department died in a wreck along Highway 70.
A spokesperson with the Bureau of Indian Affairs said Peru was driving to a mandatory meeting when the trailer from another vehicle came loose and crashed head-on into the officer’s car.
The accident happened around 3:30 p.m. west of Safford.
Peru had only been on the force for 30 days before he was killed.
Funeral services are pending.
